Aller Media boosts innovation with a new digital architecture

Modern IT architecture and a clear Azure cloud strategy drive Aller Media’s digital transformation.

The challenge

With millions of readers shifting from print magazines to digital experiences, Aller Media needed to improve its digital conversion rates, speed up go-to-market processes, and increase efficiency in its digital operations.

Previously, all changes had to be made directly in the ERP system, a practice that became increasingly cumbersome and inefficient, highlighting the need for a major transformation.

About Aller Media

Aller Media A/S is the leading publisher of magazines and weeklies in the Nordics, delivering content and entertainment to readers across Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. The company’s digital foundation has historically been built on a large-scale ERP system.

The solution

A dedicated team of ten Immeo consultants worked on-site at Aller Media for six months, ensuring that all major and minor changes could be rapidly decided and executed.

"By the end, they were practically part of our family," says Michael Enk, former Group IT Director.

Despite project complexity and tight deadlines, every milestone was successfully met.

The result

We helped Aller Media modernize its IT architecture by creating a new platform based on independent microservices, ensuring it is future-ready.

The cloud-based IT platform has provided Aller Media with faster go-to-market capabilities, greater scalability, and reduced operational risks.

Behind the solution

In collaboration with Aller Media A/S, we therefore decided on a new cloud strategy. In short, we needed to build a new architecture, migrate applications, and modernize the platform so that it consisted of independent business capabilities implemented as microservices in Microsoft Azure. It was important that the new architecture helped get new products to market quickly.

One of the key properties of microservices is that they can be deployed individually. This gave Aller Media a structure where the company can move a single microservice onto a new technology and see whether the expected benefits of that technology hold up in practice, rather than rolling out all modules in one large release.

At the same time, the architecture is built on the principle of "build once – use everywhere," meaning content can easily be shared across services. This has allowed Aller Media A/S to reduce some of the risks associated with change. Going forward, the company can more easily introduce and test new ideas and products, because changes in one piece of software don't affect the other components.

Even the executives roll up their sleeves and get to work. Their success is our success, and they stand by that. They deliver what’s agreed upon and don’t just try to sell more. If an unexpected problem arises, they fix it - even on weekends or during holidays.

The collaboration

Throughout the project, our partnership was defined by close collaboration, shared objectives, and a deep understanding of Aller Media’s business needs.

We provided both technical expertise and strategic insight, forming the foundation for a successful digital transformation.

We chose Immeo because they are known for quality. Their error rate is low, their coding is solid, and their architectural structure is well-organized. We truly value that.
